Pixie Restaurant – Mt. Pleasant, MI

Pixie Restaurant (aka, “Pixie Pizza”) is a fast food restaurant located in Isabella County at 302 North Mission Street in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, near Gun Lake Casino, and Central Michigan University.

The original Pixie Drive-In restaurant sat at the intersection of Chippewa and Mission streets on the corner of the C.F. Turner-Norman La Belle used car lot.

Started in 1948 by Norman La Belle, the Pixie Restaurant offers pink and teal neon signs, a jukebox playing classic rock, retro posters, and other related memorabilia from the decade. The outside is decorated with murals of the famous actors from the past.

The “Pix” specializes in coneys (with Mamma La Belle’s original sauce), burgers, grinders, and pizza. It even has a pixie mascot, actually a person in a pixie costume who mingles with the customers who come to the 50s-themed restaurant.

Back in the day, Pixie Restaurant, the first drive-in restaurant in Mt. Pleasant, was open in the summer time as a drive in and would close in the winter. It offered curb service and “car hops” who served customers in their cars and placed their food on trays attached to the car’s window.

Inside The Pixie, black and white pictures of the staff adorn the walls, as well as plagues with the names and dates of winners of their “eating challenge.” To be featured on the Pixie Wall of Fame, a customer has to eat 10 Bitty Burgers or six Coney Dogs in the alloted time.

Every Thursday night in the summer from Memorial Day through Labor Day they have a “Cruisin’ the Pix” car show that attracts owners of vintage vehicles who come to the event to show off their classic hotrods and enjoy the food and company.

The restaurant also post humorous signs like “Parking. Pixie Customers Only. Other Cars Will Be Crushed and Melted” and “We don’t eat in your beds, Don’t sleep in our booths!”

In 2006, the restaurant launched “Coneys for a Cause” a fund raising event, that benefits the local Youth Services Unit.
