Fairy Alley is a small strip of land next to the residential property at 1507 Treadwell Street in Austin, Texas.
A six-foot privacy fence along the side of their fence is decorated with colorful murals and dotted with fairy houses and other bric-a-brac.
The alley’s asphalt surface is painted and colorful designs of purple, pink, blue and green that simulate floating lily pads and koi fish swimming in a pond.
Both the alley surface and the fence are the product of Suvi Aika, the resident at 1507 Treadwell. With the help of her friends, she transformed the mundane public alley adjacent to her home into an enchanted walkway.
During the year, the alley next to Wonderlandia is decorated with seasonal items like Easter eggs, Halloween pumpkins and Christmas trees.
Ms. Aika’s home also reflects the same whimsical nature she imposed on her alleyway. The steps leading up to the front of her house as well as her porch are covered with bright-colored mosaics tiles that mimics the story of Alice in Wonderland. The Aika’s calls their home “Casa Wonderlandia.”
While the fence still exists, the colorful alley road surface was damaged in 2013 by construction activities digging trenches in the roadway.
