Gnome Home is a bed and breakfast located on Shadow Mountain Ranch at 2771 Frisius Drive in the Cleveland National Forest near the old mining town of Julian, California.
Situated within a mountain view of oak and pine-covered mountains, the Gnome Home features a waterfall shower, rock sink and a bed with the gnome hats on the bedposts.
The bathroom’s swinging saloon style doors are hinged with a carved image of Mr. Gnome on one and Mrs. Gnome on the other. When the doors are closed, the gnome’s lips touch each other in a kiss.
The property is owned by a retired couple: James Ketcherside, a former teacher and school administrator, and his wife, a retired nurse.
“Here at Shadow Mountain Ranch, we strive to offer you a memorable experience in our gorgeous mountain setting, all while providing a comfortable and luxurious experience. Each room is different, so you’re guaranteed a unique experience each time you stay with us.”
The Ketcherside’s established Shadow Mountain Ranch to provide guests with place where they can relax, recuperate and recharge their batteries without the noise and hubbub of the city after their hectic work week.
Each room has a different theme, including Manzanita, Victorian Rose, Grandma’s Attic, Treehouse, Enchanted Cottage and the Gnome Home. The mushroom-shaped gnome cottage was inspired by artist and sculptor Tom Clark.
Guests at Shadow Mountain Ranch receive a country breakfast plus afternoon tea. On-site facilities include a lap pool, hot tub, archery, badminton, croquet, and horseshoes. Rental rate per night: $125.00 (weekdays) / $150.00 (weekends).
As of 4/22/2014, reservations were no longer being taken for the Gnome Home.
We are sad to say that we will be closing our doors to new reservations. After nearly 40 years of service, we are regretfully shuttering our little bed and breakfast for an indefinite time. Due to the recent drought, our well has nearly run dry, and cannot accommodate any more guests. We will continue to honor any reservation before May 1, 2014, but mother nature is forcing us to cancel any reservations after this date.”
NOTE: If you like enchanted gnome and hobbit like cottages, check out the homes along Park Avenue in the town of Charlevoix, Michigan. Known as the “Mushroom Houses” this cluster of Arts and Craft and Storybook-style homes were built by Earl Young (1889-1975).
