Troll Hollow – Marseilles, IL


Troll Hollow is a campground located at 2265 N 2453rd Road in the town of Marseilles, Illinois. It is less than 90 minutes from Chicago, with easy access via I-80 & I-55.

Nestled in the beautiful Illinois Valley area, the campground is owned and maintained by the Jacobsen family who opened Troll Hollow in 1972. They offer full hookup RV sites for seasonal stays. A few short-term sites are available.

Troll Hollow is the “summer home” to campers who come back year after year after year to make new memories with family and friends. In fact, the campers at Troll Hollow have become such good friends that they feel like family.

While you experience the fun of Troll Hollow’s spacious, wooded lots and beautiful country setting, you are still within miles of many other places to spend your vacation time.


For those who want to get in a game of golf there is the Prairie Lakes Golf Course, Senica’s Oak Ridge Golf Course, Pine Hills Golf Club and the Dayton Ridge Golf Club.

If you are into hiking, you can find adventure on the many wonderful trails, activities, and lodging at Starved Rock Adventure where you can hike the serene trails, or fish in the beautiful Illinois River.

For more water sports trek over to Illini State Park to their public boat launches, waterfowl, beautiful flora & fauna, fishing, hiking and picnicking.

And if you like bluffs, canyons, cascade falls, horse trails and fishing, then Matthiessen State Park is the place for you.

Like Stock car racing? Then race on over to Grundy County Speedway and LaSalle Speedway.

And for a less noisier venue, you can stroll the charming streets of nearby Utica and search for the perfect antique or visit the Roxy Movie Theaters in Ottawa or The Orpheum Cinemas or Peru Mall Cinemas in the nearby Morris.

And when your day is done, you return to the security and cozy fun of Troll Hollow. For more than 30 years Troll Hollow has been making friends and helping them make memories.

NOTE: In West Branch, Michigan there is campground called Troll Landing located at 2660 Rifle River Trail in West Branch, Michigan. They provide hot showers, a playground, and a camp/paddle store. You have your choice of old town canoes and kayaks or tubes for whatever trip you want to take down the Rifle River.

In the foothills of Maine there sits Troll Valley Campground at 283 Red School House Road in Farmington, Maine. It is a magical place far enough from the hectic and busy life of most and yet 1 mile from shopping, restaurants and just 2 miles from the University of Maine at Farmington.

Born in Philadelphia, Jerome Alphonse Holst worked 30 years as a librarian. He has since retired and lives in Thomasville, North Carolina. Mr. Holst is also the author of the children’s books “Norman the Troll,” "Norman the Troll and the Haunted House," and "Gretchen and the Gremlins." In addition, he penned the fantasy novel “The Adventures of Glinda Gale,” a retelling of “The Wizard of Oz" and the reference text “The Encyclopedia of Movie and TV Insults.” .
