Dragon Tales – Enchanted Dragon Land

Dragon Tales – The adventures of two Hispanic children named Max (4) and Emmy (6) [and later a boy named Enrique from Colombia] who travel to a magical land filled with dragons on the PBS animated educational series DRAGON TALES/1999-2005.

To transport to Dragon Land, the children grab hold of a magical dragon scale and recite the incantation "I wish, I wish with all my heart to fly with dragons in a land apart"

As the spell takes form, the dragon images on the wallpaper in their bedroom begin to swirl about… then whooosh! they arrive in Dragon Land.

The kids first discovered their enchanted dragon scale in a box which they found in a secret drawer in their new home. When the kids transport to their magical destination, they visit with their dragon friends:

  • Cassie – Born May 16th, she is shy, pink and lacks confidence. She has 72 brothers and sisters including her little sister, Kiki and little brother Finn. A human girl named Emmy is Cassie’s best friend.
  • Ord – Born September 9th, he is tall, blue and likes to eat dragonberries. He fears many things, especially the dark. A human boy named Max is Ord’s best friend.
  • Zak– Born July 21st, he is the male part of a two-headed dragon (conjoined twins). Wheezie is his twin sister who shares a single body.
  • Wheezie – Born July 21st, she is the female part of a two-headed dragon. Unlike her conservative brother Zak, Wheezie is the wild one in the partnership.
  • Quetzal – Born September 27th, he is a teacher at the School in the Sky. He often counsels his friends Cassie, Ord, Zak, Wheezie, as well as Max and Emmy with the help of a magical reference book. When his students accomplish something or overcome a challenge, the dragon badges they wear around their neck glow.

Other residents of Dragon Land are: the Do-Re-Mi birds, "the sweetest singing birds in all of Dragon Land"; Sid Sycamore, a talking tree, who likes to laugh at his own lame tree puns. The gang builds a tree house in his branches; a gremlin called a Fury who feeds off anger; Doodle Fairy, who can’t talk! Only doodle; and Trickster Cyrus the sneaky serpent.

Dragon Tales aired weekdays on most PBS stations and also in some foreign markets. Each show was divided into two twelve-minute adventures linked by a sing-a-long.

Theme Song Lyrics

Emmy wished on a dragon scale
And that’s what started "Dragon Tales"
Around the room the dragons flew
But Emmy and Max knew what to do
They climbed on the backs
Of their dragon friends
Now the adventures never end!

"Dragon Tales" "Dragon Tales"
It’s almost time for "Dragon Tales"
Come along and take my hand
Let’s all go to Dragon Land

There’s Ord, he’s the biggest
Not so brave of heart
There’s Cassie so shy

Oh so very smart
There’s Zak and Wheezie
In these tales of fun
Cause you know two heads
Are better than one

"Dragon Tales" "Dragon Tales"
It’s almost time for "Dragon Tales"
Come along
And take my hand
Let’s all go to Dragon Land.
