Halliwell Sisters – San Francisco, CA

The Halliwell Sisters are three enchanted siblings (known as “The Charmed Ones”) featured on the WB/CW Network fantasy drama CHARMED (1998-2006).

Prudence “Prue” Halliwell [born 1970] works for Buckland Auction House. Piper Halliwell is a chef at The Quake restaurant and Phoebe Halliwell is a Jill of all trades and floats from job-to-job until she takes a position as a newspaper advice columnist.

They all live in an enchanted Victorian house at 1329 Prescott Street San Francisco, CA and cast spells with the help of the “The Book of Shadows” and the incantation “The Power of Three Will  Set Us Free.“

One of their ancestors was a witch named Melinda Warren. Before Melinda was burned at the stake in colonial Virginia, she vowed that each generation of Warren witches would become stronger and stronger, culminating in the arrival of three sisters. They would be protectors of the innocent and known as the “Charmed Ones.”

The Halliwell sisters were the prophesied witches and so they used their powers and the incantations in “The Book of Shadows” to battle demons and warlocks (“these are evil demons who hunt and kill witches… former witches who failed to follow the ‘Wiccan Rede'”).

Beings known as “White Lighters” [guardian angels for witches] protect the Halliwells from evil. Piper falls in love with their white lighter, marries him and conceives a child named Wyatt whom was prophesied to do great things in the future.

Consequently, all the Halliwell’s were on constant guard to protected Wyatt from the many demons who visited their home to kill the baby and themselves.

Weirdly enough, Phoebe falls in love with a Demon named Balthezor (aka, Cole Turner), but, in the end, their love was doomed and Phoebe had to killed her demonic beau.

When Prue is killed by a demon, her surviving sisters discover a 25-year-old half-sister named Paige Matthews. Paige was the child of Halliwells’ mother and a white lighter named Sam. When Paige was born she was given up for adoption to a Sister Agnes and raised by a loving couple who later died.

Paige sensed an attachment to the family, attended Prue’s funeral, became a part of the family and restored the magic circle of the power of three. Page’s power is teleportation of objects with her mind.

Prudence, Phoebe and Piper first discovered they were witches when their Ouija board directs them to the attic of their newly inherited home. Hidden in a steamer trunk they find a large leather-bound book called “The Book of Shadows” filled with mystical incantations used by witches to ward off evil.

On the first page there was a woodcarving of three women in a circle casting spells and an elaborately scrolled incantation which says: “Hear now the words of the witches. The secrets we hid in the night. The oldest of spells are invoked here. The great gift of magic is sought.” According to another incantation “The Book of Shadows” was designed to bestow the sisters with witchcraft powers. It read: [spoken by Phoebe]

“Hear now the words of the witches. The secrets we hid in the night. The oldest of gods are invoked here. The great work of magic is sought. In this night and in this hour I call upon the ancient power. Bring your powers to we sisters three. We want the power. Give us the power”

The ceremony is best performed at midnight on a full moon. The sisters soon discovered they had received special powers. Phoebe could see the future; Piper could stop time; and Prudence could move objects with her mind. As their experience with “The Book of Shadows” increased, so did the sisters magical powers.

The Halliwell family cat (familiar) is known as Kit. Around her neck dangles the “Triquettra,” the symbol of the Charmed Ones, found on “The Book of Shadows.”

NOTE: The Wiccan Rede is the moral code for all witches that states, “An ye harm none, do what ye will.” In essence, as long a witch does not harm anyone with their potions and spells, they are free to do as they like.
