Gnome Café – Charleston, SC


Gnome Café is a vegetarian and vegan restaurant located on the corner of President St. and Cannon St. in downtown Charleston, South Carolina.

Owned by Saramel Evans and Sara Grimshaw, the restaurant serves breakfast & lunch, and feature recipes that show just how fulfilling and delicious plant-based cuisine can be.


“Everything is vegan. No animals are harmed in the making of anything.”

With no  dairy and meat on their menu,  Gnome Café serves up such vegan fare as tofu scramble with black beans & homefries, hemp sausage biscuits, and a tempeh reuben on rye (sauerkraut, vegan swiss cheese and pickles).

Born in Philadelphia, Jerome Alphonse Holst worked 30 years as a librarian. He has since retired and lives in Thomasville, North Carolina. Mr. Holst is also the author of the children’s books “Norman the Troll,” "Norman the Troll and the Haunted House," and "Gretchen and the Gremlins." In addition, he penned the fantasy novel “The Adventures of Glinda Gale,” a retelling of “The Wizard of Oz" and the reference text “The Encyclopedia of Movie and TV Insults.” .
